Sattlerhof

Crystalline precision meets Burgundian elegance – this combination makes the wines from Gamlitz so unmistakable. The Sattlerhof under the direction of Willi and Andrea Sattler has developed into one of the most respected wineries in South Styria since the 1980s. On the steep slopes around Gamlitz, Sauvignon Blancs of international calibre are produced, whilst Morillon and Welschriesling embody the Austrian soul of the estate. The family tends their vineyard sites with meticulous care and vinifies with the composure of experienced winemakers. The result is wines that reflect both terroir and the signature of their makers with remarkable clarity.
More about Sattlerhof
Pioneer Spirit in South Styria
Willi Sattler was among those visionary winemakers who recognised as early as the 1980s the potential slumbering in the steep slopes of Gamlitz. Together with his wife Andrea, he systematically built a winery that today ranks among the Great STK vineyard sites of Styria. The family focuses on grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, which find their finest expression in this special microclimate between the Koralpe and the Slovenian border.
Terroir with Character
The vineyards of Sattlerhof benefit from a unique geological situation. Opok marl and chalky loam soils characterise the terroir and lend the wines their distinctive minerality. The Ried Alter Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc Great STK Site 2022 embodies these soils in perfection – with its combination of tropical aromas and stony precision. The slope gradients of up to 70 per cent ensure optimal drainage and force the vines to develop deep root systems.
The Pannonian climate with its warm days and cool nights creates ideal conditions for flavour maturation. These climatic conditions are reflected particularly impressively in the Old Vines Welschriesling DAC 2023, which comes from vines over 40 years old and displays a complexity that can only develop through decades of rootedness.

Craftsmanship with Precision
In the cellar, the Sattler family pursues a philosophy of minimal intervention. The grapes are hand-picked and pressed gently, with fermentation taking place under temperature control in stainless steel tanks. For the top wines, barrique ageing is deliberately employed, but always with the aim of emphasising fruit and minerality, not masking them.
This approach is particularly impressive in the Ried Marein Muskateller DAC 2022, which despite its intense aromaticity develops remarkable elegance and length. The art lies in taming the natural intensity of the Muskateller type without diminishing its characteristic personality.

Diversity with Focus
Whilst Sauvignon Blanc is the winery's flagship, the Sattler family also demonstrates their skill with other varieties. The Gamlitz Morillon DAC 2024 shows how elegant Austrian Chardonnay can be when vinified by experienced hands. With its balanced equilibrium between fruit and minerality, it stands worthily alongside renowned neighbours such as Tement.
The DAC classification of South Styria has given the winery additional momentum. These strict quality guidelines align perfectly with the Sattlerhof philosophy: to produce authentic wines that clearly reflect their region of origin. Each bottle tells the story of the steep slopes of Gamlitz – with a clarity and intensity that deserves international recognition.
