Tasting note
Sattlerhof is renowned for Sauvignon Blanc of international class — this sparkling herbal elixir shows that the Sattler family from Gamlitz also excels beyond the vine. Not a wine, but a playful, elemental apéritif that captures the Styrian landscape in a glass.
- Colour & appearance
- A hazy mallow hue, appearing wild and unfiltered, crowned by a fine, beautiful mousse — visually a statement in itself.
- Nose
- Intense wild herbs meet an austere note reminiscent of undergrowth. Alongside this, fruity hints of quince, vineyard peach, citrus and orange — an aromatic profile suspended between meadow, forest and orchard.
- Palate
- Crisply dry and refreshing, once again with abundant herbal notes and delicate fruit. The low sweetness of the quince variety used ensures a linear, never jammy impression — as precise as the estate’s wines.
- Finish
- Herbaceous and cool, with a citrus-tinged, tart aftertaste that leaves the palate clean.
- Terroir & origin
- From Gamlitz in Southern Styria, that landscape of steep slopes between the Koralpe and the Slovenian border which Sattlerhof has shaped since the 1980s. The Pannonian climate, with warm days and cool nights, yields not only wine here but also intensely aromatic herbs and fruits.
- Grape variety & vinification
- No grape variety at all, but an old, almost forgotten quince variety — rich in compounds yet low in sugar — combined with extracts of yarrow, nettle and linden, brewed at different temperature stages.
- Food recommendations
- The ideal opening apéritif for a cuisine built on herbs and vegetables: grilled fennel with herb oil, asparagus with tarragon, wild herb salad or steamed spring vegetables.
- Special features
- A natural elixir that deliberately defies the conventions of the wine glass: cloudy, wildly herbal, dry. Those who appreciate Sattlerhof’s wines for their clarity will find here the playful, unconventional side of the very same estate.
