Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Pale, translucent yellow — clear as polished glass, with a youthful gleam in the glass.
Nose
Immaculate and of remarkable precision: pure, juicy Muskateller aroma, plenty of apricot, alongside ethereal notes of lemongrass and coriander as well as a scent reminiscent of hops. Inviting, seductive and with a depth rarely found at this price level.
Palate
Juicy, dense and supremely refreshing — a wine that remains feather-light despite its intensity. With only 11% vol. and vinified dry, it is the ideal seducer as an apéritif, served cool, without any heaviness but with plenty of drive and the purest varietal aromas.
Finish
Fresh and precise, with a lingering note of stone fruit and delicate spice that resonates long enough to be taken seriously.
Terroir & origin
Eichberg near Gamlitz is one of the DAC village wine communes of Southern Styria. Here, on the steep slopes between the Koralpe and the Slovenian border, the grapes grow on gravel and pebbles — soils that ensure drainage and give the wine its taut, cool core. The Pannonian climate with warm days and cool nights shapes the aromatic ripening.
Grape variety & vinification
Gelber Muskateller is one of Austria’s most challenging varieties — taming its exuberant aromatics without stifling them requires a sure touch. Sattlerhof, built up by the Sattler family since the 1980s and today run by brothers Alexander and Andreas, vinifies this DAC village wine in stainless steel tanks and bottles it young, after about seven months: pure freshness, fermented under temperature control, hand-harvested grapes from 15- to 25-year-old vines.
Food recommendations
A natural ally for creative, aromatic cuisine: with Thai curry with coriander and lime, with asparagus, with sushi or with a fresh goat’s cheese salad with apricots. Also a revelation enjoyed solo on the terrace in early summer.
Special features
The art of this wine lies in the contrast: intense, almost exotic fragrance — hops, herbs, apricot — paired with a slender body and minimal alcohol. A Muskateller that proves Southern Styria can do more than Sauvignon Blanc.
