Wine Description for Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc DAC 2024 from Sattlerhof

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with delicate green reflections – a wine that already tells of freshness and vibrancy in the glass.
Nose
The nose is precise and multi-layered: green pear and green plum form the fruity backbone, accompanied by a hint of blackcurrant, pea pod and delicate herbal notes such as lemon balm and verbena. Splashes of lime and lemon lend the bouquet tension, whilst a fine undertone of stone dust and smoke unmistakably underscores the mineral character of this village wine.
Palate
On the palate, the wine unfolds juicy, lively and remarkably round. The green-yellow fruit carries without ever becoming heavy. An elegant, vibrant acidity (5.2 g/l) and a fine extract sweetness hold the balance perfectly – no mean feat at 13.5% alcohol.
Finish
The finish is long and characterised by a piquant, saline minerality that anchors the wine in the memory well beyond the final sip. Zestiness and freshness linger – a wine that invites you to pour another glass.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from family-owned vineyard sites around Gamlitz in South Styria, situated at 350 to 450 metres above sea level on steep hillside slopes. The soil of crystalline quartz sands with mica and the cool microclimate are the decisive factors for the characteristic tension and minerality of this wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Sauvignon Blanc from 15 to 35-year-old vines, selectively hand-harvested. Fermentation took place spontaneously in stainless steel, with maturation in the same vessel – a deliberate commitment to fruit and varietal authenticity. With merely 1.1 g/l residual sugar, the wine presents itself dry and clearly defined.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to Styrian lamb carpaccio with herbs, grilled pike-perch with lemon butter, goat’s cheese or a classic Caprese with basil oil. Also striking as an aperitif.
Special Features
As a Gamlitz DAC village wine, this Sauvignon Blanc represents the new Styrian provenance system with conviction. Sattlerhof is among the most reliable addresses in South Styria – and this 2024 vintage demonstrates why.
