Wine Description for Ried Marein Muskateller DAC 2022 from Sattlerhof

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with brilliant clarity, already announcing the precision of this vineyard site wine.
Nose
A captivating aromatic interplay of rose, muscat and hop flowers, underpinned by elderflower and blackcurrant. Fascinating are the citrus nuances of mandarins, limequats and salt lemons, which combine with hints of lanolin, sage and coriander seed to achieve extraordinary complexity. This Muskateller displays an airiness and finesse reminiscent of great Rieslings.
Palate
Crystalline and razor-sharp in precision. The fine-knit structure is carried by a delicate grip, whilst the silky texture provides elegance. Alongside the aromatic spice and vibrant fruit, a cool, stony character dominates with pronounced minerality and salinity. At 12% alcohol and with lively acidity, the wine remains playful and invigorating despite all its complexity.
Finish
Long, cool and characterised by mineral freshness, with lingering citrus notes and a saline finish that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Ried Marein is a top vineyard site in Eichberg at 500 metres elevation – a steep south-facing slope, surrounded by cooling forests. The approximately 30-year-old vines are rooted in calcareous quartz and gravel soils, which lend this Muskateller its mineral signature.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Muskateller. A portion of the grapes underwent extended skin contact fermentation for additional texture. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel at 1.1 g/l residual sugar with 5 g/l acidity, maturation also in stainless steel to preserve aromatic purity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Sashimi, oysters, scallops with lemongrass, Thai salads, goat’s cheese with herbs, asparagus with hollandaise or simply as a sophisticated aperitif.
Special Features
A Muskateller that redefines the boundaries of the variety – less opulent, yet all the more precise and site-expressive. Vinified by Sattlerhof, one of South Styria’s pioneers, in DAC quality.
