Wine Description for Alte Reben Blauburgunder 2023 from Sattlerhof

Colour & Appearance
Luminous transparent ruby with remarkable clarity – a visual statement for Sattlerhof’s elegant, unadorned approach.
Nose
A Pinot Noir that seduces white wine drinkers: bright, juicy, fresh. Subtle oak notes and a delicate vanilla-buttery character frame a lively interplay of aromas featuring crisp berries, blood oranges, red cherries and herbs. Complemented by violet flowers – a fragrant invitation to South Styria’s elevated vineyard sites.
Palate
Here the true nature of this wine reveals itself: seductively juicy with a vibrant acidity that guarantees freshness and drinkability. The delicate red fruit is structured by a fine tannic grip, without ever dominating. Refined and energetic from the tip of the tongue through to the finish – a Pinot Noir that combines lightness with substance.
Finish
Persistently fresh with mineral tension and a lingering note of red berries and herbs. The energy remains present right to the end.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes hail from the prestigious single vineyard site Ried Kranachberg between Gamlitz and Leutschach. Old vines are rooted at 450 to 550 metres elevation in calcareous quartz sands with gravel and shell limestone – a terroir that brings freshness, minerality and finesse into the bottle.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir from old vines, hand-harvested and moved only by gravity. Spontaneous fermentation, gentle extraction and two years‘ ageing in 300-litre wooden barrels create a wine of remarkable elegance and precision at a moderate 12.5% alcohol.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with pan-fried char, veal schnitzel, duck breast roasted pink, mushroom risotto or aged mountain cheese. Also a pleasure on its own.
Special Characteristics
A red wine for white wine lovers – Andreas Sattler proves that South Styrian elegance works in red too. Old vines, elevated vineyard sites and careful vinification create a captivating, refined Pinot with an Austrian signature.
