Wine Description for Ried Pfarrweingarten Weissburgunder DAC 2019 from Sattlerhof

Colour & Appearance
Pale, almost platinum-hued straw yellow – a wine that presents its six years of maturity with brilliant clarity and noble restraint.
Nose
An extraordinarily fine, positively sensual bouquet that perfectly balances maturity and elegance. Ripe pears and white currants meld with limequats, underpinned by subtle notes of lanolin, acacia honey, butter fudge and white nougat. No single component dominates – everything combines into a harmonious, multi-layered bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, the true personality of this wine emerges: creamy texture meets vibrant vitality. The acidity structure is mature yet crystalline and precise, supported by a fine minerality that reflects the chalky terroir. Citric notes, stone fruit, a hint of salt and candied lemon peel provide complexity and tension.
Finish
Long, elegant and with lingering mineral freshness that enlivens the palate and invites another sip.
Terroir & Origin
The monopoly vineyard site Pfarrweingarten is a protected south-facing basin location in South Styria at 380 metres elevation. The steep slopes with their characteristic shell and coral limestone soils impart the wine’s distinctive mineral signature. Old vines yield fully ripe grapes of particular concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) from old vines, fermented at 1.1 g/l residual sugar with 5.3 g/l acidity. Maturation took place over 18 months on the lees in small wooden barrels – a vinification approach that gives the wine structure, depth and ageing potential.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for discerning combinations: roasted turbot, scallops in butter sauce, calf sweetbreads, risotto with white truffle or aged Comté. The creamy texture also harmonises beautifully with poultry in cream sauce.
Special Characteristics
A prime example of how Austrian Weissburgunder gains complexity with age without losing its freshness. Six years of bottle maturity have bestowed the wine with remarkable harmony and depth – a wine that rewards patience.
