Grenache blanc
Grenache Blanc - long underestimated by many critics - is currently experiencing a fascinating renaissance, especially in the hands of thoughtful natural wine producers. This traditional Mediterranean variety displays an astonishing complexity under minimalist vinification.
At Terroir al Limit in Priorat, Dominik Huber masterfully demonstrates the true potential of this grape variety. His biodynamically produced white wines are a far cry from the oxidative, heavy interpretations of days gone by. Instead, they present themselves with crystalline clarity and an almost electrifying mineral tension. The grapes are harvested early in order to preserve the natural acidity and are carefully vinified without oenological intervention.
In Chêne Bleu in Provence, Grenache Blancs of captivating precision are produced under the meticulous direction of Nicole Rolet. The high-altitude vineyards on Mont Ventoux provide grapes of rare expressiveness. The biodynamic approach in the vineyard and the minimally invasive cellar work result in wines that seem to translate the limestone soils into liquid form - savoury, multi-layered and with impressive ageing potential.
