Wine Description for Tros Blanc Saleras 2019 by Alfredo Arribas

Colour & Appearance
Luminous lemon yellow with golden reflections and rusty nuances – a wine that reveals its maturity and Mediterranean origin already in the glass.
Nose
Expressive and multi-layered. Floral notes of acacia blossom, apple blossom and orange blossom open the bouquet, followed by orange zest, apple skin and apricot. Beneath this unfolds a fascinating Mediterranean depth: fresh almonds, sage, thyme and the resinous spice of pine groves. A fragrance profile of impressive complexity.
Palate
Here the Saleras reveals itself surprisingly restrained, almost meditative – subtle, clear, precise. The texture is calm, yet of remarkable depth. Delicate notes of orange, apricot and quince are carried by well-integrated, medium acidity. The minerality – chalky, angular, slightly saline – forms the backbone of this wine. Dried herbs such as thyme and sage come to the fore, accompanied by a nutty almond tone and a saline, almost green olive character. The limestone-rich soils of Montsant are reflected in an almost cool, austere minerality.
Finish
Medium length, with persistent saline minerality and a hint of pine needles and roasted almonds. The austerity of the terroir lingers on.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from a single vineyard site in Montsant at 325 metres elevation. The vines, averaging 70 years old, are rooted in sandy, limestone-rich soils – an origin that is clearly reflected in the saline, mineral character of the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Grenache Blanc with a proportion of Macabeo. Fermentation in oak barrels, followed by 10 months of ageing on the lees in 500-litre French oak casks – an ageing that imparts structure and depth without overwhelming the fruit.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine for discerning Mediterranean cuisine: grilled sea bream, Pulpo a la Gallega, risotto with porcini mushrooms, pan-fried scallops or aged Manchego. Also an excellent choice with calf’s sweetbreads in butter or chicken with lemon and olives.
Special Characteristics
A characterful, purist white wine of great elegance and structure. Terroir-driven, Mediterranean, fascinating – a wine that captures the austere beauty of Montsant in the bottle.
