Wine Description for Tros Blanc Saleras 2017 by Alfredo Arribas

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with delicate golden reflections – a wine that already hints at its maturity visually.
Nose
A moment of reverence: The nose reveals impressive maturity that suits this wine beautifully. Nutty notes dominate, accompanied by salted butter on toasted brioche. Behind these unfold ripe apple and intense peach, threaded through with cold smoke. Almost ethereal, sage and menthol hover over the whole – refreshing and of remarkable length.
Palate
Opulent and forceful, yet never heavy-handed. The chalky precision moderates the fullness and delivers astonishing elegance. Enormous ageing potential meets earthy minerality. The fruit recedes in favour of hay, dried herbs, roasted almonds and salted dough. These roasted aromas harmonise perfectly with the measured maturity, which creates numerous umami moments – fascinating and highly complex.
Finish
Long and sustained, characterised by roasted almonds and saline notes that linger on the palate for minutes to come.
Terroir & Origin
A parcel selection from Montsant: The nearly seventy-year-old Grenache Blanc vines (with occasional Macabeo stocks) are rooted at 325 metres elevation in sand over calcareous subsoil. The low planting density of 2,000 vines per hectare guarantees concentrated, characterful grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested in late August 2017, fermented in large French oak vats, followed by ten months of ageing on lees in 500-litre tonneaux. This vinification imparts the wine with its remarkable texture and complexity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine for discerning pairings: Roasted turbot, scallops with hazelnut butter, sweetbreads, risotto with porcini mushrooms, aged Comté or Manchego. The umami component makes it an ideal companion for miso-glazed fish or Parmesan dishes.
Special Characteristics
An extraordinary Grenache Blanc that demonstrates the ageing potential this underrated grape variety possesses. The balance between opulence and precision, between maturity and freshness is masterful. A wine that invites pause and contemplation.
