Wine description for Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Clos de Beauvenir" Blanc AOC 2022 from La Nerthe
- Colour & appearance
- Bright golden yellow with greenish reflections that emphasise the freshness of the vintage. Medium viscosity that elegantly masks the powerful 15% alcohol.
- Nose
- Seductively complex bouquet: white flowers and Acacia blossoms meet mature yellow pear, Mirabelle and Apricot. Including mineral notes of Flintstone and Chalk, with echoes of Almonds, Honey and a touch of Vanilla. The Roussanne brings floral elegance, while the Grenache Blanc provides fullness and depth of fruit.
- Palate
- Opulent yet precise: the wine fills the palate with a creamy texture and impressive concentration. Ripe drupes merge with Beeswax and roasted hazelnuts. Despite the 15% alcohol, the wine appears surprisingly balanced, carried by lively acidity that guarantees freshness and tension. On the mid palate Herbs of Provence and a fine Saltiness, which reflects the chalky terroir of the Clos de Beauvenir.
- Departure
- Long, persistent and mineral. The fruit slowly fades away, leaving behind an elegant, slightly bitter note of Almond shell and white pepper. Remarkable length for such a young wine.
- Terroir & origin
- The historic Clos de Beauvenir below the Château is reserved exclusively for white grape varieties due to its high limestone content. These limestone soils give the wine its characteristic minerality and freshness. Château La Nerthe has been certified organic since 1998 and vinifies its 57 parcels separately.
- Grape variety & vinification
- Cuvée from Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, vinified separately and composed into a complex whole by cellar master Rémi Jean with admirable intuition. The careful selection and separate vinification of the parcels enables the highest precision.
- Food pairing suggestions
- Lobster in saffron sauce, Fried scallops, Turbot with truffle, Sweetbreads, ripe Comté or Beaufort d'Alpage. Also excellent for Risotto with porcini mushrooms or Poularde de Bresse à la crème.
- Special features
- One of the great white Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines with excellent ageing potential of 8-12 years. The combination of organic cultivation, historic terroir and artisanal vinification makes this wine a benchmark of the appellation.
