Henri & Gilles Buisson

Mineral precision meets Burgundian elegance – wines that reflect the terroir of Saint-Romain and Santenay with extraordinary clarity. Henri & Gilles Buisson run their family estate in the Côte de Beaune with that artisanal care that distinguishes only true terroir purists. Since 1947, the family has farmed their parcels biodynamically, long before this became a trend. Their Pinot Noirs develop a fascinating tension between rustic power and silky finesse, whilst the white wines are characterised by crystalline purity. Wines that capture Burgundy's true soul, without compromise on authenticity and expression.
More about Henri & Gilles Buisson
Biodynamic Pioneers in Saint-Romain
The Buisson family manages their 13 hectares in the appellations of Saint-Romain, Santenay and Beaune according to biodynamic principles, which Henri introduced as early as 1990 – at a time when these methods were still considered eccentric. The vineyards are situated on calcareous soils with varying exposures, which impart those mineral complexities for which the estate is renowned. This philosophy is particularly evident in the Bourgogne Aligoté "Pierre Percée" AOC 2022, which demonstrates that this often underestimated grape variety is capable of extraordinary finesse when treated with respect.
Saint-Romain – Burgundy's Hidden Gem
In the lesser-known appellation of Saint-Romain, Buisson produces wines of remarkably authentic character. The altitude of up to 400 metres ensures cool nights and an extended ripening period, which gives the grapes a natural acidity structure and intense aromatics. The Saint-Romain rouge "Sous Roche" AOC 2022 embodies these characteristics perfectly: a Pinot Noir of crystalline purity with notes of wild berries and a subtle mineral note derived from the calcareous subsoil.

Artisanal Vinification Without Compromise
Gilles Buisson vinifies with minimal intervention – a philosophy that demands absolute cleanliness in the vineyard. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts and the avoidance of fining or filtration require decades of experience and tireless attention. This uncompromising approach is exemplified in the Santenay 1er Cru rouge "Clos De La Comme" AOC 2020, a wine of extraordinary depth and complexity, which fully realises the potential of its privileged vineyard site.

The New Generation Sets Accents
Whilst Gilles has perfected the traditional methods, the younger generation brings fresh impetus to the estate. This is particularly evident in the white wines, which have gained in precision and elegance. The Saint-Romain blanc Sous La Velle "ABSULO" AOC 2022 demonstrates this evolution: a Chardonnay of impressive minerality and length, which proves that Saint-Romain also ranks among Burgundy's insider tips for white wines. In a wine landscape increasingly characterised by commercialisation, Henri & Gilles Buisson remain true to their principles and produce wines that reflect the authentic face of the Côte de Beaune.
