Wine Description for Corton Grand Cru „Le Rognet-et-Corton“ AOC 2022 by Henri & Gilles Buisson

Character
Henri & Gilles Buisson belong to those craftsmen in Burgundy who work their Grand Cru vineyard sites with humility and precision. This Corton from the parcel „Le Rognet-et-Corton“ embodies the powerful, masculine side of the Corton hill – a wine of structural depth and mineral tension that reflects the iron-rich geology of its origin in every fibre. At 13% alcohol, it displays a Burgundian elegance that places finesse above opulence.
Terroir & Origin
The Corton is the only Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune that produces red wine, and Le Rognet-et-Corton lies on the eastern flank of the legendary hill between Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. The soils here are characterised by iron-rich marl and limestone, which give Pinot Noir a particular austerity and minerality. The exposure and stony soils produce wines of exceptional ageing potential and a tannin structure that rewards patience. The 2022 vintage benefited from a warm, dry summer with cool nights – ideal conditions for concentrated, precise Burgundy wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds one of its most sublime expressions on the Corton hill. The Buissons work with traditional methods, low yields and respectful ageing that gives primacy to the terroir. Typical of Le Rognet is a darker fruitiness – black cherry, blackcurrant – combined with earthy notes, spices and a distinctive mineral vein. Vinification takes place with natural yeasts; ageing in French oak barrels lends the wine complexity without obscuring its Burgundian transparency.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this stature demands appropriate accompaniment: game dishes such as venison roast or saddle of deer, Coq au Vin, Bœuf Bourguignon or braised pigeon. It also reveals its full class alongside aged cheeses such as Époisses or Comté. Give it time – this wine will gain in depth over the coming ten to fifteen years.
