Wine description for Bourgogne rouge AOC 2022 by Henri & Gilles Buisson

Colour & Appearance
Transparent, luminous cherry red – a classic, unadorned Burgundy with crystalline brilliance that reveals its artisanal provenance the moment you look into the glass.
Nose
Fragrant and quintessentially Burgundian: morello cherries and strawberries meet raspberries and tart barberry notes. Subtle earthy undertones and a whisper of dry wood lend depth to the bouquet without dominating the fruit – a textbook example of elegant, unoaked Pinot Noir.
Palate
Vibrant, juicy and refreshing with an opening of sour cherries, Darjeeling tea and delicate yeast notes. The tannins present themselves as fine and powdery, perfectly integrated. With pleasant grip and an inviting character, this wine embodies exactly what makes a fine Bourgogne Rouge: finesse over power, elegance over opulence.
Finish
Medium-length with persistent fruit freshness and fine minerality that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come primarily from Saint-Romain, sourced from vines of at least 30 years old at around 425 metres elevation – predominantly from the vineyard site above Les Sous Roches, supplemented by a small proportion of declassified Village-level parcels. This altitude brings the characteristic freshness and tension to the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested and partially destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with pigeage and remontage, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Ten to twelve months ageing in a mix of barriques (228, 350, 500 litre) and tonneaux with a maximum of 10% new wood. Bentonite fining, coarse filtration, minimal sulphiting (40-50 mg/l) at bottling. The Biodyvin-certified estate works consistently with natural methods.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Charcuterie with dark French country bread, bruschetta with wild mushrooms, tomatoes and thyme or risotto with radicchio and bresaola – the wine harmonises beautifully with both rustic and refined cuisine.
Special Features
An honest, artisanally crafted Bourgogne Rouge that proves even entry-level appellations can deliver great drinking pleasure – when they come from masters like the Buissons.
