Wine description for Santenay rouge „Croix Sorine“ AOC 2020 by Henri & Gilles Buisson

Colour & Appearance
Luminous transparent cherry red with youthful brilliance – a classic Burgundian Pinot Noir that reveals its origins at first glance.
Nose
Restrained, yet with fine precision: sour cherries and morello cherries dominate, accompanied by ripe red berries and a hint of blood orange juice. The oak plays a discreet role in the background – finesse rather than power is the motto here.
Palate
Silky and elegant, the red fruit unfolds on the palate. The texture is remarkable: fine-grained tannins combine with precise acidity to create a structure that feels both firm and delicate. The focus is clearly on freshness and pure fruit – the subtle oak merely frames without dominating.
Finish
Medium-length with persistent freshness and fine cherry fruit, carried by lively acidity.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Croix Sorine borders La Maladière Premier Cru to the north-west and benefits from similar exposure. Although vinified from purchased grapes, these come exclusively from organically certified (Ecocert) and biodynamic (demeter) parcels – quality without compromise.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested and partially destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel vats with traditional pigeage and remontage. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation and 10-12 months ageing in a carefully considered blend of 228-, 350- and 500-litre barrels with a maximum of 10% new oak. Minimal fining with bentonite, coarse filtration, only 40-50 mg/l total sulphites – natural winemaking with a deft touch.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with whole porcini mushrooms roasted in the oven with pancetta, frittata with horn of plenty and chanterelles or pappardelle with hare sauce. The wine’s elegance harmonises beautifully with mushroom dishes and light meats.
Special Features
A négociant wine that fits seamlessly into the Buissons‘ quality-focused portfolio. Proof that purchasing grapes need not mean compromise when quality selection is rigorous.
