The vintage chart rates 2013 as very good for Barolo, Brunello and Champagne, as well as for Austria’s white wines; Burgundy, the southern Rhône, German Rieslings and Spain’s Rioja and Priorat turn out to be mixed. Champagne experienced a cool spring, a hot, dry summer and a harvest that stretched into October; the vintage is considered greatly underrated, combining intensity with restraint alongside lively acidity and pronounced minerality, and it is increasingly appreciated over time. Those who delve deeper will find, among the Piedmont vintages, forecasts close to those of the 2010s; among the Brunello vintages, ready-to-drink wines of structure and finesse standing in the shadow of 2010 and 2016; and among the Rhône vintages, a north with outstanding white wines, while in the south coulure-affected Grenache pushed yields down to 26 hectolitres per hectare.

The stock is shaped by Champagne, the Wachau, Priorat, Veneto, Rioja and Alsace, with red and white wines evenly balanced. Several 2013s are available from Nikolaihof in the Wachau, from the Veneto by Cà la Bionda, from Rioja by Remirez de Ganuza and from Alsace by Zind-Humbrecht. In Spain, rated as mixed, browsing is well worth the effort; for Priorat, Terroir al Limit and Portal del Priorat each feature several times.
