Wine Description for Leorin 2013 by Laderas de Montejurra

Colour & Appearance
Intense, dark purple with violet rim and an almost black core – a wine that announces its concentration visually from the outset. It presents itself clear and lustrous in the glass.
Nose
Initially reserved, the Garnacha unfolds its complex aromatic profile only gradually. The fruit tends towards dried plums, dried cherries and cranberries, complemented by figs. An impressive spice spectrum follows: cinnamon bark, clove, saffron and liquorice, rounded off by fine notes of cocoa shell and valerian.
Palate
Here the Leorin reveals its true class. The dark berry fruit displays a remarkable faceted richness – perceptible from the skin through the flesh to the stone. The tannin is the heart of this wine: powerful and full, yet surprisingly silky and supple. This combination of elegance and untamed energy is characteristic of old Garnacha vines. With 14.5% alcohol, the wine carries its power with dignity.
Finish
Long, warm-hearted and of sustained depth. The spice notes linger, whilst the silky tannin envelops the palate.
Terroir & Origin
The wine comes from the single vineyard site Santa Maria de Leorin in Navarra. The Garnacha vines were planted in 1968 and are thus over 45 years old – an age that lends the wine its extraordinary concentration and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Predominantly Garnacha (Grenache) with a proportion of Tempranillo. The old vines naturally yield low crops, but the highest quality and aromatic density.
Food Pairing Recommendations
With pigeon breast with cranberry jus, baked calf’s head with truffle mayonnaise or vegetarian with grilled halloumi with beetroot and apple salad. The wine pairs well with bold, spicy flavours as much as earthy components.
Special Characteristics
A wine with character and depth that impressively demonstrates the quality of old vines. The balance between power and finesse makes it an outstanding representative of the Navarra region.
