Crystalline elegance meets centuries-old tradition in the sparkling wines of the Penedès. Gramona is one of Spain's most respected Cava producers and has been proving since 1850 that Spanish sparkling wine can more than hold its own against Champagne. The Batlle i Gramona family tends its vines on the limestone-rich soils of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia with great precision. What sets Gramona apart from other Cava producers is its radical approach to biodynamic winemaking. As early as 2000 the family converted all 150 hectares to organic farming, at a time when that was still revolutionary in the Penedès.
Biodynamic Pioneers in the Penedès
The soils around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, where Xarello, Macabeu and Parellada thrive, are shaped by limestone and fossil deposits and respond exceptionally well to this natural approach. Jaume Gramona and his team see their vineyards as a living ecosystem in which every intervention is carefully considered. This philosophy runs through every one of their sparkling wines, from the saline, crystalline clarity of La Cuvee “Aliances” Extra Brut 2021, with its lemon zest, nashi pear and 36 months on the lees, to the complex depth of Enoteca Brut Nature 2012.
Craftsmanship Meets Innovation
More than four million bottles lie in Gramona's underground cellars, an impressive testament to patience and quality. Here traditional bottle fermentation by the méthode champenoise is not merely practised but perfected. Particularly fascinating is the use of solera systems for certain cuvées, a technique normally associated with sherry.
The Wines of Gramona
The range runs from the elegant Imperial Brut 2018 through III Lustros Font de Jui Brut Nature, which after more than 84 months on the lees smells of sourdough bread and roasted almonds and finishes saline and crystal-clear, to the legendary Celler Batlle, one of the finest sparkling wines in Spain. Each of these Cavas tells a story of the Penedès, of patience and of an unshakeable belief in quality.

The international wine world has long counted Gramona among Europe's great sparkling wine producers. Its Cavas are regularly compared with the finest Champagnes, a compliment the family accepts with proud modesty.
