Info about the wine

The Heimbourg vineyard is one of the small individual vineyards on the secondary and tertiary fracture area in Turckheim In this area, the geology varies greatly over short distances and explains why these vineyards are so small . Heimbourg is the only one that lies from southwest to west on a limestone soil poor in olizocene. The upper part of the vineyard, which is most exposed to the winds, is planted with Pinot grapes. It is basically similar to the Rotenberg on the other side of the valley, but with a much lower iron content, and therefore often produces more aromatic and expressive wines that show beautifully when young.

Like most Pinot Gris in 2016, the grapes ripened perfectly at a lower alcohol level to produce an elegant, dry wine.

Color

Bright, light golden yellow with delicate mother-of-pearl reflections.

Nose

The 2016 Pinot Gris Heimbourg smells razor sharp with lots of citrus, orange, lime and apricot jam, peach stone and ripe mango. The present fruit is supported by lots of spice notes of cardamom, coriander, laos ginger and gingerbread spice. Flinty notes show up succinctly, along with a true umami aroma that brings to mind meat broth and bacon. A truly delicate wine.

Palate

Juicy and with a lot of pressure it also shows on the palate, with spice and fine tannin. The spicy and tangy structure in combination with the creamy sweetness and the salty substructure seems concise and voluptuous and at the same time still very youthful, almost unfinished. It should still be given the necessary time to mature, it will develop into a wonderfully multifaceted drop that accompanies aroma-intensive and rich dishes excellently.

At this stage, be sure to decant and enjoy from large Burgundy glasses.
