Let's look at the wine:
Olivier Humbrecht
The isolated site of Heimbourg, a mountain side that extends independently from the Vosges, lies to the east of the Grand Cru Brand in Turckheim. Despite its small size of 7 hectares, this vineyard has a remarkable history that finds its origins in the post-war period. Due to its steep slope and the difficulties associated with its cultivation, much of Heimbourg was abandoned at the time. The main rock, both on the surface and underground, is of Oligocene age, visible in the form of large blocks of calcareous sandstone conglomerate. Heimbourg is also known for its southwest to west exposure, which means the vines face the cooler north winds. This is a possible explanatory factor for the strong aromatic notes and wonderful acidity of the wines produced. Leonard Humbrecht was the first to recognise Heimbourg's untapped potential, acquiring plots from 1978 onwards. Despite the many challenges of this location, the winery has continued these efforts and today owns 4 hectares of vineyards in this region.

Scent
The 2020 Pinot Gris Heimbourg reveals deep, complex aromatics reminiscent of green tea, forest floor and spice infusions. With sufficient aeration, a broader spectrum of fruit comes to the fore, including vibrant notes of lime, green apple and grapefruit. A Pinot Gris, dynamic and enlivened by a unique freshness, harmoniously complemented by a solid minerality.
Taste
Salty sweetness on first contact, followed by an invigorating acidity that emerges from a wave of juicy fruit. There is a hint of malt, accompanied by a finely balanced tannin structure that whets the appetite. A juicy apple fruit dances on the tongue - undoubtedly an excellent companion for spice-intensive dishes, which it rounds off skilfully. A wine with considerable storage potential. Those who lack patience are advised to decant this wine at least one day in advance and enjoy it from large Burgundy glasses - definitely not too chilled!
