Wine description for Pinot Blanc 2024 by Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Character
A dry Pinot Blanc of quiet elegance: fresh on the attack, with delicate apple and pear fruit, a subtle floral note and that texture-giving depth for which Zind-Humbrecht is known. At just 12.0% ABV, it remains slender, drinkable and of clear, linear structure – a wine that radiates calm rather than making noise.
Terroir & Origin
Alsace is geologically one of the most diverse wine-growing regions in Europe – granite, limestone and volcanic rock lie close together here. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Turckheim, in winemaking hands since 1620, is regarded as one of the region’s leading estates. Olivier Humbrecht, the first French Master of Wine, farms the roughly 42 hectares biodynamically and is Demeter-certified; on the steep slopes, horses are once again pulling the plough. Since 2019, Pierre-Emile has represented the eleventh generation working at the estate.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Blanc is one of the quiet grape varieties – and therein lies its charm. At Humbrecht, it comes from low yields of just 30–40 hectolitres per hectare. The house style is long ageing on the lees for at least six months, which lends the wine its creamy texture, along with one to two years of cellar maturation before a bottle leaves the estate. Olivier Humbrecht describes biodynamics with a wink as “therapy for the vines to forget stress” – an attitude you can sense in the wine.
Food Pairings
A versatile food wine: wonderful with Tarte flambée and other Alsatian cuisine, with steamed fish, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or goat’s cheese. Also a fine choice with sushi and light Asian dishes – wherever finesse is called for.
