In Champagne, 2006 is regarded as a very good vintage; high sugar levels combined with remarkably low acidity yielded supple wines with good ageing potential. Brunello experienced the reference vintage of the decade; a 2025 retrospective shows that many of these dark, intense wines are still maturing slowly. In Piedmont, healthy grapes survived two downpours during the Indian summer following a cool summer; the vintage is considered promising. Along the Rhône, the vintage is often overlooked between its two more acclaimed neighbours; the better wines were made by those who waited for full ripeness.
A selection is available, including from Champagne the Extra Brut by Jestin as well as La Vigne d’Antan and La Vigne d’Or by Tarlant; from the Wachau, the Grüne Veltliner Im Weingebirge and the Riesling Vom Stein by Nikolaihof; from Piedmont the Barolo Pira Riserva Etichetta Nera by Roagna in magnum format; and from Alsace the Sélections de Grains Nobles Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal and Riesling Brand by Domaine Zind-Humbrecht. Older vintages come and go with us in small quantities, and the neighbouring vintages can be reached via the vintage bar below this text.
