Vintage 1988

1988 is considered in Champagne to be the finest vintage of the 1988, 1989 and 1990 trilogy for long-term ageing, characterised by slow grape ripening, a powerful, taut structure and delicate complexity; Salon, Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill and Ruinart Dom Ruinart are regarded as the top wines of the vintage. In Piedmont, this initially overrated vintage ultimately produced attractive, soft, full-bodied wines. Brunello from 1988 is listed as ready to drink and remains a vintage for collectors, where provenance and fill level say more than any chart.

If you are looking for a wine from the birth year or anniversary 1988, you will find here a small selection of mature white wines, including the magnum bottle Im Weingebirge, Grüner Veltliner Federspiel trocken 1988 from Nikolaihof in the Wachau, as well as the Marsala Superiore Oro Riserva 1988 in the 500 ml bottle from Marco de Bartoli in Sicily. Older vintages come and go in small quantities; the neighbouring vintages can be reached via the vintage bar below this text.
