Vintage 1985
The 1985 vintage is legendary in Champagne. An extreme winter with minus 25 degrees Celsius destroyed around a tenth of the vines, the tiny harvest yielded grapes of perfect health, and the wines are beautifully balanced, intense and of great length – they are still improving. In Piedmont, only a few remain impressive to this day; excessively high yields caused some of the wines to fade early. The Brunello of this vintage is considered classic and ready to drink, and the oenologist Attilio Pagli later even ranked the 1985 above the 2001, which he called a historic vintage. At this age, the condition of the individual bottle is the real variable anyway.
From 1985, our range currently includes the Clos du Bourg Moelleux from Huet, a white wine from the Loire that is often sought after as a birth-year or anniversary wine. Mature bottles come and go, older vintages pass through our hands in small quantities, and the neighbouring vintages can be reached via the vintage bar below this text.
