Tasting note
- Colour & appearance
- Bright violet-red with a dark core and bluish reflections – the colour of youth, clear and sparkling.
- Nose
- Dark berry fruit dominates: sour cherry, blackberry and mulberry, alongside sweet cherry and a hint of sloe. Floral notes of violet and hibiscus lend elegance, while liquorice, juniper and a touch of rosemary provide spicy depth. Cedarwood remains discreetly in the background.
- Palate
- Surprisingly fresh and juicy – brighter than the nose suggests. The fruit is crisp and clearly defined, carried by a precise acidity that gives the wine drive. No heavy tannic structure, no bitterness: the texture remains supple, making the wine effortlessly accessible. A Tempranillo that relies on tension rather than power.
- Finish
- Clean and fresh, with persistent fruit and a fine, spicy aftertaste.
- Terroir & origin
- The vineyards of Bodegas Félix Callejo are located in Sotillo de la Ribera at an altitude of 830 to 930 metres, on the northern edge of the Duero Valley. On the barren plateaus – the Páramos – bare limestone emerges at the surface; further down, soils of gravel, sand and clay alternate. The extreme temperature differences between day and night, often exceeding 20 degrees, preserve the Tinto Fino’s racy acidity.
- Grape variety & vinification
- A pure Tempranillo – known here as Tinto Fino. The estate has been organically certified since 2000, with cover crops between the vine rows and spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Harvesting takes place earlier than at many neighbouring estates to achieve crisper fruit and more moderate alcohol levels.
- Food recommendations
- A versatile food companion: grilled lamb chops, chorizo, Manchego, mushroom pan-fry with thyme or simply good bread with olive oil and jamón. Also a reliable choice with pasta in a spiced tomato sauce.
- Special features
- Flores de Callejo demonstrates what distinguishes the new generation of the Callejo family: elegance instead of power, freshness instead of oak. A Ribera del Duero that proves the region can offer more than just heavy, wood-dominated wines – all at a price that makes it easy to explore this fascinating style.
