Wine description for Artuke red wine 2025 by Artuke

Character
Artuke belongs to that new generation of Rioja winemakers who are expanding the region’s traditional understanding. The combination of Tempranillo with the white grape variety Viura in a red wine is unconventional and testifies to an experimental approach. This cuvée promises freshness and vibrancy that goes beyond classical Rioja patterns – a wine that respects tradition but does not dwell in it.
Terroir & Origin
The Rioja, situated between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Ebro, offers a complex mosaic of different microclimates. Artuke works predominantly in Rioja Alavesa, where chalky soils and Atlantic influences provide elegance and freshness. The higher elevations and cooler nights preserve the natural acidity of the grapes – a decisive factor for wines with tension and drinkability.
Grape Variety & Vinification
That Viura, normally reserved for white Riojas, is blended here with Tempranillo, points to a modern interpretation. Viura brings acidity, floral notes and a certain minerality, whilst Tempranillo provides the structural backbone and fruity aromas of red berries. Artuke is known for respectful winemaking with minimal intervention, spontaneous fermentation and restrained use of oak. The low residual sugar content underscores the dry, purist character.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this style calls for cuisine that does not overwhelm its freshness. Ideal with grilled vegetables, chorizo or Pimientos de Padrón. The vibrancy harmonises wonderfully with tapas, mushroom dishes or roasted chicken with herbs. Also an excellent choice with hard cheeses such as Manchego or lightly aged Idiazábal – a wine for convivial moments without pretension.
