Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2007 by Château de Pibarnon

Character
Château de Pibarnon ranks among the most ambitious producers of the Bandol appellation and demonstrates impressively with this Rouge what Provence has to offer beyond the rosé cliché. The 2007 presents itself as a spicy, concentrated red wine with the characteristic structure and depth that distinguish Mourvèdre-dominated wines from this privileged vineyard site. After more than 15 years of bottle maturity, youthful power has evolved into complex elegance.
Terroir & Origin
Pibarnon lies on the steep southern slopes of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume, where vines thrive on chalky soils in terraced vineyard sites. The maritime proximity to the Mediterranean provides cooling breezes that counteract Provence’s heat and allow the grapes an extended ripening period. This extraordinary combination of altitude, limestone and Mediterranean climate creates ideal conditions for structured, long-lived red wines that reveal the region’s true potential.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Mourvèdre forms the backbone of this wine and brings the typical aromas of dark fruits, wild herbs and earthy notes. The grape variety demands patience – both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Cinsault complements with its fresh fruitiness and lends the wine additional finesse. Traditional vinification with extended maceration time and ageing in large wooden casks allow the terroir to express itself clearly. The 2007 vintage has by now developed those tertiary aromas that make great Bandol wines so fascinating.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This mature red wine calls for braised game dishes, lamb shoulder with Provençal herbs or a daube provençale. It also proves an ideal companion to aged hard cheeses such as Comté or to mushroom dishes. The spicy complexity harmonises wonderfully with Mediterranean braised dishes and aromatic stews.
