Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2018 by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Dense purple with violet reflections – a wine that already displays its youth and concentration in the glass.
Nose
Here reveals itself the full class of a great Bandol. Dark fruitssour cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant – meet a fascinating balsamic spice. Tar, liquorice and graphite lend the bouquet a cool, almost ethereal dimension, whilst juniper, rosemary, dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans provide Mediterranean complexity. Despite all its intensity, the aroma remains delicate and elegant – a remarkable balance.
Palate
The Mourvèdre delivers: juicy, cool and with impressive finesse. The structure is taut and slender, the drinking flow positively seductive. A distinctive graphite note lends the wine a linear, cooling corset that effortlessly integrates the 14.5% alcohol and Mediterranean origin. The fruit remains present without dominating – a superb balance between power and elegance.
Finish
Refined and racy with sustained fruit expression. The freshness carries far without losing substance.
Terroir & Origin
Château de Pibarnon lies in the Bandol AOC in Provence on limestone soils on sloping terrain. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by the altitude and proximity to the sea, which gives the wine its characteristic freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Dominated by Mourvèdre with a proportion of Cinsault. The late-ripening Mourvèdre finds ideal conditions here and develops that complexity and structure for which Bandol is world-renowned.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with lamb shank ragout with turnips and tomato, sour calf’s tongue with lentil-sherry vinaigrette or surprisingly good with roasted aubergine with curry yoghurt, pomegranate and almond.
Special Features
A prime example of modern Bandol: powerful, yet never heavy, complex without overwhelming. Château de Pibarnon is „simply a safe bet“ – a reliable producer of great Provence red wines.
