Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2019 by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Deep, muted violet-red, colour-dense to the rim – a visual promise of concentration and power.
Nose
An aromatic spectrum that invites lingering: plump blackberries, black cherries and cassis meld with elderberry and wild raspberries. Beneath lies a fascinating complexity of tree bark, liquorice, leather and cocoa, framed by Provençal herbs such as rosemary, thyme and juniper. The Mourvèdre dominance reveals itself in all its Mediterranean splendour.
Palate
Charming and expansive, this Bandol presents itself with sweet cassis notes, structured by present yet ripe tannin. The invigorating acidity keeps the opulent fruit in balance and lends the wine tension. A primal, almost animalistic quality underscores the wild character of this appellation.
Finish
Long, spicy and carried by fine tannins that promise many more years of ageing.
Terroir & Origin
The vines grow in a natural amphitheatre-like setting at 250 metres elevation, facing the Mediterranean. The subsoil of clay, limestone and chalk from the Triassic period lends the wine its mineral depth and complexity – pure terroir from the Bandol AOC.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A cuvée of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache from the finest, oldest parcels. After three weeks of fermentation, the wine matures for 20 months in carefully selected barriques, tonneaux and foudres of various origins – a classic Vin de Garde that rewards patience.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This powerful Provençal demands intense cuisine: wild rabbit with porcini risotto, pigeon with citrus-nougat hollandaise or even a vegetarian crêpe with Bleu d’Auvergne and blackberries. A perfect companion to game dishes of all kinds.
Special Characteristics
An authentic Bandol bearing the hallmark of one of the region’s most renowned châteaux. At 14.5% alcohol powerfully built, yet never overwrought – a wine for connoisseurs that will reveal its true greatness in the years to come.
