Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2020 by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Intense purple-red with luminous violet reflections – a visual promise of youth and power.
Nose
Seductively complex: An ethereal bouquet of lavender, roses and juniper hovers above dark fruit aromas of ripe cherries, plums and blackberries. These are joined by blood orange nuances and a hint of vanilla – a modern Bandol that already captivates in its youth.
Palate
A charmer with backbone. After adequate aeration, a seductive blend of ripe black cherry, crisp plum and liquorice unfolds, accentuated by cinnamon, vanilla and a whisper of tonka bean. The distinctive acidity structure and the present yet fine-grained tannin lend the wine, despite its opulence, a cool, fresh vein. Notes of violet and pepper round off this elegant yet robust profile.
Finish
Lingering and spicy with beautiful length that underscores the elegance of this modern Bandol.
Terroir & Origin
The vines thrive in an amphitheatre facing the sea on clay, limestone and chalk from the Triassic period at 250 metres elevation. Only the finest and oldest vines are selected for this Vin de Garde, with low yields of around 30 hl/ha.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache (also Cinsault according to the label). Three-week fermentation, followed by 20 months of parcel-by-parcel ageing in various barriques, tonneaux and large wooden casks of different origins.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Rib eye medium rare with rosemary butter, grilled lamb rack with thyme and rosemary or wild mushroom ragout with usukuchi shoyu – the wine harmonises equally well with robust meat as with aromatic vegetarian dishes.
Special Features
A modern Bandol that masters the balance between early accessibility and ageing potential. Despite its 14.5% alcohol, it comes across as elegant and fresh – a seductive ambassador of Provence.
