Wine information
The 2017 Pibarnon Bandol Rouge presents itself as a harmonious and enticing blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. The vines, deeply rooted in an "amphitheatre" sloping towards the sea, take their nutrients from the rich clay, limestone and chalk soils of the Triassic period. To produce this ageing drop, only the oldest and highest quality vines are selected at an average altitude of 250 metres. A fermentation lasting three weeks is only the beginning. The wine then matures for over 20 months in carefully selected barriques, tonneaux and barrels of different origins.
visual impact
A depth of purple-red hue with purple reflections signals the quality of this winter.
Fragrance character
The 2017 Château de Pibarnon Rouge unfolds a complexity of aromas led by dark blackberries, blackcurrants, pickled plums and elderberry with nuances of elder wood. Additional notes of juniper, cloves, truffle and pepper play harmoniously with subtle undertones of peach and orange. Even the delightful aroma of violets is present and pampers your senses with its charming profile.
Taste experience
As it makes its way across your tongue, you feel a soft, full-bodied intensity complemented by the finest tannins and invigorating acidity. The cool and outstanding minerality gives this wine a further character trait. This outstanding classic, all about the Mourvèdre grape, shows its potential for maturity. From the decanter or even a day after opening, it can serve as the perfect companion to your meals.
Food suggestions
Enjoy it together with wild duck in foie gras and plum sauce. Another delicate option could be wild rabbit with black truffle and celery puree. And if you love cheese, try the Salers cheese combined with candied black olives and rosemary focaccia.
