Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2017 1500ml Magnum by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Deep violet-red with luminous purple reflections – a visual promise of concentration and youthfulness that this 2017 impressively delivers.
Nose
Fulminant and profound, a bouquet of impressive complexity unfolds: dark blackberries, blackcurrants and dried plums at the core, framed by elderflower, juniper and clove. Surprising notes of vineyard peach and orange lend freshness, whilst truffle, pepper and violet provide Provençal spice and elegance. A fragrance that already envelops and seduces.
Palate
Soft, full-bodied and dense – this is how this classic Bandol presents itself. The tannins are of extraordinary fineness and quality, silky-woven yet present. A refreshing acidity and cool, stony minerality lend the wine tension and depth. The fruit fullness is perfectly balanced by Mediterranean herbal spice and subtle oak integration. After a day of air contact or decanted, it already shows itself accessible, without surrendering its ageing potential.
Finish
Long, spicy and mineral with lingering dark fruit aromas and fine pepper notes. The noble Mourvèdre structure promises great ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted in a unique amphitheatre opening towards the Mediterranean on clay, limestone and chalk from the Triassic period at 250 metres elevation. Eric de Saint Victor has led the legendary Château since 1989 with organic and biodynamic approaches – a terroir of magical beauty that is reflected in the glass.
Grape Variety & Vinification
90% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache from the finest old vines. Three-week fermentation, followed by 20 months maturation in carefully selected barriques, tonneaux and foudres of various origins – each parcel treated individually.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Pigeon with foie gras and dried plum sauce, saddle of hare with black truffle sauce, Salers cheese with candied black olives, braised lamb or robust game dishes.
Special Features
The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions for this Vin de Garde. A great classic from one of the most renowned vineyard sites of the Bandol appellation with outstanding ageing potential.
