Wine Description for Pinot Blanc „Mandelberg“ GG 2024 from Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow, clear and brilliant in the glass.
Nose
The Mandelberg initially presents itself rather reserved, almost shy – typical for a young Pinot Blanc of this calibre. With patience, pencil shavings and graphite unfold, followed by apples and pears. Exotic hints of mango and carambola mingle with garden herbs and mineral notes of stone. A nose that promises maturity and precision.
Palate
On the palate, the wine practically explodes: juicy, present and of impressive intensity. The white and yellow-fleshed fruit dominates, accompanied by citrus fruits and those exotic notes that were still restrained on the nose. A slightly vegetal note lends complexity, whilst stone dust and herbs underscore the mineral signature of the shell limestone. The acidity is typical for this soil formation: precise, carrying, vibrant. Creamy texture meets crystalline clarity – a wine of considerable depth and length, completely unmanipulated and authentic.
Finish
Long, mineral and fresh. The shell limestone acidity carries far, leaving a juicy, almost saline impression with fine herbal notes.
Terroir & Origin
The Mandelberg lies south-west of Birkweiler at approximately 250 metres elevation, south-east facing. The shell limestone, interspersed with loam, is somewhat deeper-rooted than in comparable vineyard sites and lends the wine its characteristic mineral character. A geological fault of the Rhine Graben with rocks from the Permian and Triassic periods shapes this extraordinary vineyard site.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Blanc, slowly pressed on a basket press, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel – without oak. Pure fruit, pure origin.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Pan-fried turbot, scallops with herb butter, veal schnitzel with lemon, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese of medium maturity or risotto with wild mushrooms.
Special Characteristics
A Großes Gewächs that bears the hallmark of Rebholz: uncompromisingly clear, profoundly mineral and multifaceted. The Mandelberg is the creamier, fruit-forward counterpart to the GG Im Sonnenschein – a Pinot Blanc of international stature that deserves time.
