Colour & Appearance

Luminous lemon yellow with green reflections – a wine that already promises freshness and energy in the glass.

Nose

Fascinatingly complex: toasted white bread with salted butter meets cold smoke and stony minerality. Beneath this, a lush fruit layer of ripe apricots, mirabelle plums and grilled pineapple. Lemon zest provides tension, whilst vegetable notes of artichoke, fennel and sage lend the wine remarkable complexity. A Pinot Blanc that goes far beyond the varietal typicity of pear and apple.

Palate

Breathtakingly precise: acidity and salinity in perfect balance, the crisp fruit carried by a fine creaminess. The minerality of the coral limestone soil is distinctly present and elegantly duels with the creamy texture. As it develops, the herbal and vegetable notes intensify, lending the wine depth and character. A masterclass in tension and harmony.

Finish

Long, saline-mineral with lingering herbal notes and a refreshing citrus spice. The acidity remains present without being intrusive.

Terroir & Origin

The vineyard site „Im Scherben“ sits on Jurassic sedimentary rock and coral limestone – the name refers to the splintery limestone. The exposed, sparse vineyard site and the hot, dry 2022 vintage with its historically early harvest at the end of August shaped this concentrated, mineral character.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pinot Blanc, 12.5% vol. Aged for 15 months in large oak barrels, followed by three months as an assemblage in stainless steel tank. This combination gives the wine its creamy texture and complex toasted notes without masking the fruit precision.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Steamed cod with creamy kohlrabi, confit halibut with artichoke hearts and toasted almonds or grilled corn-fed chicken breast with orange-braised fennel – this wine demands thoughtful, aromatic cuisine at an elevated level.
