Wine Description for Weisser Burgunder „Mandelberg“ GG 2023 by Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with green reflections – youthful and fresh in the glass.
Nose
The Mandelberg presents itself as the more fruit-driven, creamier counterpart to Im Sonnenschein. Here the higher clay content of the shell limestone reveals itself in lightly tropical notes and ripe stone fruit. Added to this are citric nuances, herbal notes and a fine mineral component. The vinification is clear and precise, without any heaviness – refined and elegant.
Palate
Juicy and mouth-filling with pure, ripe fruit of stone fruit, kernel fruit, a touch of papaya and lemons. A hint of lemon curd and natural extract sweetness lend the wine its charm. The silky texture is threaded through with crisp acidity, which provides tension, whilst the minerality creates vibration on the palate. Salinity and grip round out the picture – a Pinot Blanc that impresses through its pure, multi-layered expression without oak influence.
Finish
Long, fresh and mineral with lingering stone fruit and a saline minerality that resonates.
Terroir & Origin
The Mandelberg vineyard site lies south-west of Birkweiler at around 250 metres elevation with south-easterly exposure. The vines are rooted in a geological fault of the Rhine Graben with shell limestone interspersed with clay – somewhat deeper-rooting than the neighbouring vineyard site Im Sonnenschein. This soil composition gives the wine greater substance and fullness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Weisser Burgunder (Pinot Blanc), slowly pressed, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel. No oak influence – the pure varietal character takes centre stage.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, pan-fried scallops, veal schnitzel with lemon, creamy risottos or aged Comté. Also an exciting choice with Asian dishes featuring coconut milk.
Special Features
Großes Gewächs (GG) – the highest quality level in the VDP. A Pinot Blanc that unites power and finesse, fruit and minerality in impressive balance.
