Wine description for Roero rosso DOCG 2022 by Valfaccenda

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous ruby red with delicate lightening towards the rim – typical of young Nebbiolo. Violet reflections bear witness to the youthfulness of this 2022, which perfectly embodies the elegance of Roero.
Nose
Enchantingly fragrant and of remarkable precision. Sour cherries and wild raspberries dominate, accompanied by floral notes, thyme and rosehip. Beneath lies a cool, mineral depth that speaks of the sandy subsoil of the vineyards – finesse rather than power.
Palate
Slender, almost dance-like on the tongue. The red berry fruit is carried by a vibrant, invigorating acidity that lends the wine remarkable lightness despite 14% alcohol. Not a trace of heaviness, no weight – only pure, eminently drinkable elegance with delicate fruit sweetness in the background. A Nebbiolo that combines accessibility with character.
Finish
Medium length, with lingering cherry fruit and fine herbal spice. The acidity remains present and refreshing through to the end – a wine that demands the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from various vineyards of different ages in Canale and Santo Stefano Roero – vineyard sites such as Mompellini, Loreto and San Grato. The characteristic sand-clay soil of Roero lends this Nebbiolo its typical elegance and minerality, which clearly distinguishes it from the more powerful Barolo.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo, vinified as a blend from various parcels. Fermentation over several weeks in barrels, bottling during the waning moon of the following year – Valfaccenda follows biodynamic principles here. Further bottle ageing before market release.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Vitello tonnato, Pasta al ragù, Veal schnitzel or Risotto with porcini mushrooms. The wine loves uncomplicated, rustic dishes of Piedmontese cuisine. Also an excellent choice with tomato-based dishes and aged cheese.
Special Features
A prime example of accessible, young Nebbiolo from Roero – perfect for anyone wishing to get to know the grape variety without having to wait years for it to reach drinking maturity. Excellent value for money.
