Wine Description for Langhe Nebbiolo Nebbiolo DOC 2024 by Sottimano

Character
The Langhe Nebbiolo from Sottimano is the elegant entry point into the world of one of Piedmont’s most renowned estates. Lighter in body than the house’s great Barolos and Barbarescos, it nonetheless embodies the unmistakable character strength of Nebbiolo – with fine tannin structure, vibrant acidity and an expression that hints at depth without overwhelming. A wine that doesn’t demand attention, but rather convinces through subtlety.
Terroir & Origin
Sottimano is rooted in Neive in the heart of the Langhe, a landscape whose calcareous Tortonian soils lend the Nebbiolo precise minerality and structural tension. The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC appellation allows winemakers to showcase the character of their vineyard sites within a more accessible framework – less ageing time, greater immediacy, yet the same Piedmontese foundation.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo – the grape variety that means everything in Piedmont – reveals itself in this Langhe format from its more approachable side. Sottimano, known for a traditionally oriented, terroir-faithful vinification style, eschews cosmetic interventions and lets the variety speak for itself. The ageing is deliberately kept shorter than with the Crus, which brings freshness and drinkability to the fore, without denying the variety’s characteristic tannin presence.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The vibrant acidity and firm tannin structure make this wine an ideal companion to Piedmontese cuisine. Excellent with Tajarin al ragù, truffle risotto or simple Vitello tonnato. It also shines with grilled lamb chops or a mature Taleggio. A wine that comes alive at the table – not in the spotlight, but in conversation.
