Wine Description for Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2024 by Olek Bondonio

Character
Olek Bondonio represents a new generation of Piedmontese winemakers who interpret Nebbiolo with a fresh perspective. His Langhe Nebbiolo 2024 embodies the accessible side of this demanding grape variety – less monumental than Barolo or Barbaresco, yet more immediate and approachable. With moderate 13.5% alcohol, this wine demonstrates elegance over power, without denying the characteristic structure of Nebbiolo.
Terroir & Origin
The Langhe DOC encompasses those vineyards in Piedmont that lie outside the prestigious DOCG zones – often younger vines or vineyard sites that nonetheless possess the region’s typical limestone-rich marl terroir. The continental climate with hot summers and cool autumn nights shapes the character: the Nebbiolo grape ripens slowly here and retains its natural acidity and finesse. It is precisely in this appellation that one can see how versatile Nebbiolo can be when given room to express itself.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo – the diva among Italy’s grape varieties – demands a delicate touch. Its thin skin yields moderate tannins despite the dark colour, yet these are of remarkable refinement. Bondonio likely employs traditional maceration, possibly with shorter skin contact than is customary for Barolo, to preserve the fruit. Ageing probably takes place in larger wooden casks or a combination of wood and stainless steel – a vinification that respects the varietal character without overwhelming it. The result: a wine with the typical Nebbiolo architecture, but without the austerity of great vintages.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Langhe Nebbiolo is the ideal companion to everyday Piedmontese cuisine: vitello tonnato, tajarin with butter and truffle, brasato al Barolo or grilled rabbit with rosemary. The vibrant acidity harmonises beautifully with tomato sauce and mushroom dishes, whilst the tannin structure also stands up well to semi-aged cheeses such as Toma Piemontese.
