Wine Description for Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
Domaine Trapet Père & Fils ranks amongst the pioneering biodynamic producers in Burgundy and delivers with this Chapelle-Chambertin a wine that masterfully expresses the finesse and depth of this Grand Cru vineyard site. The 2021 vintage, shaped by cool nights and moderate temperatures, offers classic Burgundian elegance with vibrant freshness and refined tannin structure. The Trapet family pursues a restrained, terroir-focused style that relies on spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention and measured oak usage – wines that invite contemplation.
Terroir & Origin
Chapelle-Chambertin lies directly below the legendary Chambertin and shares its geological DNA: calcareous clay soils over Jurassic limestone in ideal hillside position. The parcel benefits from easterly exposure, capturing morning sun whilst preserving afternoon coolness. Trapet tends old vines here that produce concentrated, mineral wines with considerable ageing potential. Biodynamic viticulture since the 1990s has restored the natural balance of the vineyards and imparts the wines with a distinctive energetic precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir unfolds its full expressive power on this Grand Cru terroir: red fruit, floral notes, earthy spice and vibrant minerality. Trapet forgoes fining and filtration, ferments spontaneously with wild yeasts and uses only a moderate proportion of new barriques. The moderate alcohol content of 13.0% vol. underscores the focus on freshness and drinkability rather than opulence – a counterpoint to over-extracted Burgundies. These wines require time in the glass and in the cellar.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A Grand Cru of this calibre deserves thoughtful accompaniment: game dishes such as venison loin with lingonberries, roasted pigeon or Coq au Vin harmonise perfectly with the silky tannin structure. Also aged Comté, Époisses or truffle risotto are classic pairings. The wine’s elegance also suits mushroom dishes and braised beef. Ideally allow several years for maturation or decant generously.
