  • 👃 Aroma: Red cherries, raspberries and violets, underpinned by delicate notes of earth, damp undergrowth and a hint of spices such as cinnamon and cardamom
  • 👅 Palate: Silky-fine texture with vibrant acidity, delicate, well-integrated tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish with notes of red fruit and stone minerality
  • 🎭 Character: Elegant and precise, with the lightness and finesse typical of Chapelle-Chambertin – less power than its neighbour Chambertin, but with captivating transparency and purity
  • 🍽️ Food pairing: Roasted pigeon or quail with truffle, venison fillet with wild berry jus, ripe Époisses or Comté

Wine Description for Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru from Trapet Père & Fils ranks among the quiet aristocrats of the Côte de Nuits. This is no wine for the impatient – it demands attention, time and respect. With 13.0% vol. alcohol, it remains pleasingly restrained, emphasising elegance and expression over mere power. Trapet stands for a biodynamic approach that lets the terroir speak, rather than shaping it.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Chapelle-Chambertin lies in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, immediately south of the legendary Chambertin itself. The soil – a mosaic of calcareous marl and red iron oxide clay – gives the wines from this parcel a characteristic texture and mineral depth. The 2023 vintage was marked in Burgundy by warmth and early ripeness, which enabled concentrated fruit alongside high acidity potential – provided the harvest occurred at precisely the right moment. A vintage that rewards craftsmanship.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in Gevrey is not merely a grape variety – it is a calling. At Trapet, biodynamic viticulture is consistently carried through into the cellar: spontaneous fermentation, gentle maturation in wooden casks, minimal intervention. The goal is always transparency – a wine that tells the story of its place, not the winemaker. The Chapelle-Chambertin embodies the characteristic connection of this vineyard site between silky structure, depth and fine tannin precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this provenance deserves dishes with character and substance. Classically it pairs with wild boar loin with forest mushrooms, with braised pigeon or a Coq au Vin in the traditional manner. It also harmonises beautifully with aged Comté or Époisses – cheeses that, like the wine itself, reveal their depth only with time.
