Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 1500ml Magnum by Trapet Père & Fils
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous, medium ruby red with pomegranate reflections – classically Burgundian in its transparency and elegance. The magnum bottle already promises visually a slowed, harmonious development.
- Nose
- Enchantingly complex: ripe cherries and wild strawberries meet violets, rose petals and a hint of undergrowth. Beneath lie fine notes of clove, liquorice and damp earth – that unmistakable minerality which characterises the Chambertin terroir. The biodynamic viticulture reveals itself in the crystal-clear precision of the aromas.
- Palate
- Impressive structure coupled with finesse: silky tannins envelop concentrated fruit of dark cherries and blackcurrant. The wine possesses that rare combination of power and elegance which defines great Chambertin wines. Vibrant acidity carries the aromatics, whilst earthy minerality and graphite notes lend depth. Despite its youth, a remarkable balance is already evident.
- Finish
- Long, precise and carried by noble tannins. Red fruits and spicy nuances linger for minutes – a promise of great ageing potential.
- Terroir & Origin
- From the legendary parcels in Chambertin Grand Cru, which Trapet has farmed since 1919. Partly ancient vines on the limestone-rich soils of Gevrey-Chambertin lend this wine its extraordinary depth and that sense of place which has made the Chambertin terroir renowned worldwide.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Noir from biodynamic viticulture (since the mid-1990s). Jean-Louis Trapet works with minimal intervention to preserve the purity of the terroir. The magnum format guarantees optimal ageing conditions over decades.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- With partridge with truffle, pink roasted venison loin, Coq au Vin or aged Époisses. Also a sublime pairing with duck breast with cherry sauce.
- Special Features
- Magnum format for slowed maturation. From one of Burgundy’s leading biodynamic estates. Cellaring potential: 20-30 years. A wine that perfectly embodies the philosophy of the Trapet house: respect for terroir, artisanal precision, timeless elegance.
