Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 1500ml Magnum by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
An aristocratic, immensely elegant Pinot Noir that prioritises pure finesse over powerful opulence. Rather than focusing on heavy extraction, Jean-Louis Trapet opts for aromatic depth, silkiness and a fine-grained tannic structure. In the impressive 1500ml Magnum, this liquid monument from the 2021 vintage matures particularly slowly, promising a fascinating complexity with ethereal transparency over decades to come.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Trapet boasts a long history: as early as the 1880s, pioneer Arthur Trapet saved the vines from phylloxera through secret grafting. The heart of the current estate consists of nearly two hectares in the legendary Chambertin Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, spread across three parcels featuring vines up to a century old. The soil imparts a salty-mineral coolness and deep grounding that translates the terroir into the wine unfiltered. The estate has been farmed biodynamically since 1996 and is Demeter-certified.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, shaped by gentle cellar work where the grapes are guided rather than forced. For the Grand Crus, Trapet traditionally works with a high proportion of 50 to 100 per cent whole bunches. Ageing is restrained, using a maximum of 50 per cent new oak so as not to mask the pure fruit and delicate terroir signature. Gentle vinification using gravity results in an extremely purist, nuanced soundscape.
Food Pairings
This sublime Grand Cru demands refined, umami-accentuated dishes. It pairs magnificently with pink-roasted duck breast, classic roast pheasant, braised Bresse chicken with morels or delicate fillet of veal in a truffle jus. It also demonstrates its supreme class alongside aged, mild Comté.
