Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Chambertin from Trapet Père & Fils embodies Burgundian finesse in its purest form. The venerable estate, which has worked biodynamically for generations, produces a wine of remarkably restrained elegance and depth. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol. underscores the house philosophy: precision over power, transparency over opulence. The 2022 vintage displays itself despite climatic challenges with characteristic Burgundian freshness and tension.
Terroir & Origin
Chambertin is regarded as the king of the Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard site in Gevrey-Chambertin benefits from calcareous clay soils with iron-rich oolite, which impart an extraordinary mineral structure to the Pinot Noir. Trapet has managed their parcels according to biodynamic principles since 1995, which promotes the authentic expressiveness of the terroir. The east-facing aspect and ideal slope position create a microclimate that favours complexity and longevity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir unfolds its full aromatic complexity on this legendary terroir. Maison Trapet relies on traditional vinification with extended skin contact and minimal intervention. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, ageing in French barriques with moderate new oak. This restraint allows the wine to convey the substance and soul of Chambertin unadulterated. The result is a wine of silky texture, imbued with Burgundian nobility and an ageing potential of several decades.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Such a Grand Cru demands correspondingly refined cuisine: pigeon with truffle, venison medallions with porcini mushrooms or aged Époisses are classic companions. Coq au Vin or Bœuf Bourguignon also harmonise splendidly. The wine’s elegance also suits more subtle preparations such as roasted quail or duck breast with cherry sauce.
