Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2020 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
The Chambertin from Trapet Père & Fils represents Burgundian wine culture in its purest form. The Trapet house, family-owned for generations, manages some of the most precious vineyard parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin and counts among the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture on the Côte d’Or. Their Chambertin combines power with finesse, structure with elegance – a wine that impressively confirms the centuries-old reputation of this legendary vineyard site.
Terroir & Origin
Chambertin, the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyard site of Gevrey-Chambertin, gave its name to the entire village. The vineyards lie on calcareous marl soils in an ideal hillside position with optimal south-east exposure. The 2020 vintage blessed Burgundy with concentrated, expressive wines with remarkably fresh acidity structure, despite climatic challenges. Trapet has managed its parcels in strict biodynamic fashion since the 1990s, which is reflected in the precision and depth of terroir expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir displays its most majestic side here. The low yields and advanced vine age of the Trapet parcels guarantee extraordinary concentration. Vinification proceeds with minimal intervention: natural yeasts, gentle extraction, ageing in French oak barrels with moderate new wood content. The moderate alcohol level of 13% speaks to the Trapet philosophy of elegance over opulence, drinkability over brute force – an approach that is gaining increasing significance in times of climate change.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this calibre demands culinary partners of equal standing: game dishes such as venison loin or pheasant, roasted squab, Bresse chicken with truffle or ripe soft cheeses like Époisses. Also a classic pairing with braised oxtail or Coq au Vin. The wine deserves time – both for ageing and for decanting.
