Wine Description for Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru AOC 2024 1500ml Magnum by Darviot-Perrin

Character
The Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru by Darviot-Perrin embodies that quiet elegance for which the Côte de Beaune is world-renowned. Bottled as a Magnum, this wine benefits from particularly harmonious maturation: the larger bottle volume slows development and gives the Pinot Noir time to unfold its full depth. A wine for the patient – and for special moments.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Santenots occupies a geographical peculiarity: whilst situated on the commune of Meursault, it may – when planted with red wine – bear the prestigious name Volnay. This anomaly of the Burgundian classification system reflects the deep kinship of the soils: calcareous marl with clayey components that give Pinot Noir both structure and silky fullness. The Côte de Beaune with its easterly exposure and Burgundy’s temperate continental climate provides the ideal setting for a red wine of fine tension and clear provenance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir – no other grape variety is so inseparably linked to a place as here in Burgundy. In the hands of Darviot-Perrin, a domaine specialising in Volnay and Meursault, Pinot Noir is treated with the respect that a great terroir demands: careful hand-harvesting, gentle vinification, an élevage that preserves the natural tension between fruit, acidity and minerality. With 12.5% alcohol, this wine displays a refreshing restraint – the expression of a winemaker who lets the wine speak, not the cellar.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The classical elegance of this Premier Cru calls for dishes of similar finesse: duck breast with cherries, veal medallions with morel sauce or a simple yet perfect Coq au Vin are ideal companions. Mature Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses or Cîteaux also harmonise wonderfully. The Magnum bottle makes this wine the natural choice for a festive dinner amongst wine enthusiasts.
