Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby garnet with brick-red reflections at the rim – the classic maturation colour of a Grand Cru Pinot Noir that has left its youth behind. Brilliant clarity in the glass.
Nose
Fascinating complexity: initially ripe cherry and cranberry, then the wine opens to reveal forest floor, damp leaves and truffle. Notes of clove, cinnamon and a subtle smoky note bear witness to perfect maturity. Delicate rose and violet aromas lend elegance.
Palate
Silky texture with remarkably integrated tannins – the 2008 now shows itself in ideal drinking condition. Red currant, sour cherry and raspberry meld with earthy notes of mushrooms and undergrowth. The vintage’s characteristic crisp acidity lends freshness and tension. On the mid-palate, the true greatness of the Chambertin terroir reveals itself: depth, concentration, yet never heavy-handed.
Finish
Long, precise and mineral with lingering spice notes and a hint of black tea. The acidity carries the fruit through to the end.
Terroir & Origin
From the legendary Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard site, which Trapet has cultivated since 1919. The chalky subsoil and perfect exposure lend this wine its unique minerality and structure – the epitome of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir from partly very old vines. Managed biodynamically since the mid-1990s – Jean-Louis and Andrée Trapet have thereby led the estate to the absolute pinnacle of Burgundy. Traditional winemaking with restrained use of oak allows the terroir to speak.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Now perfect with game dishes, venison loin with lingonberries, roasted pigeon or Coq au Vin. Also excellent with aged Comté or Époisses.
Special Features
The 2008 vintage is regarded as a classically elegant Burgundy with excellent ageing potential. This wine shows perfect drinking maturity after more than 15 years, yet can easily be cellared for a further 10 years.
