Tinto Cão
Also known as: Tinta Cão (Portugal)
One of the old Port grape varieties, classified as a „best variety“ in the 1756 classification. Difficult to cultivate – small bunches, low yields – and therefore long neglected. What distinguishes it is not power, but structure and density combined with freshness. In modern Douro blends it is valued because it provides precision where others bring strength.
In the range primarily at Niepoort from the Dão, who also uses the variety for elegant red wines outside the Port wine context.
