Terroir & Origin

The Vinha Velha – the old vines – are rooted in the slate soils of the Douro Valley, where extreme temperature fluctuations and sparse soils produce grapes of extraordinary concentration. This region, world-renowned for Port wine for centuries, offers ideal conditions through its steep terraced slopes and continental microclimate. The old, mixed-planted vines develop a complex root system that penetrates deep into the mineral subsoil, lending the wines their characteristic depth.

Grape Variety & Vinification

The classic blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and the rare Tinto Cão represents traditional Port wine craftsmanship. Touriga Franca contributes structure and floral notes, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) provides body and fruit, whilst Tinto Cão – an almost forgotten, demanding variety – delivers elegance and longevity. Vinification follows classical methods with foot treading in traditional lagares and fortification with brandy to preserve residual sweetness. At 20% alcohol, it displays the power and concentration typical of Vintage Port.
