Tasting note
Character
An aristocratic, profound fortified wine of remarkable structure. This Vintage Port unites the signature freshness and race of the House of Niepoort with a mature, noble-sweet complexity. On the palate, despite its imposing 20.5% ABV, it shows astonishing balance, carried by concentrated fruit, fine richness and the distinctive, delicate style that has always characterised Niepoort classics.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes originate from the dramatic, UNESCO-protected Douro Valley. Here, the vines grow on extremely steep slate terraces. The schist rock stores the immense heat of summer days and releases it to the vines at night, whilst the roots are forced to dig deep into the bedrock. This unique terroir endows the wine with its mineral depth and indestructible longevity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A cuvée of traditional, indigenous Douro grape varieties – above all Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão and Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz). In keeping with age-old tradition, the grapes for this historic style are foot-trodden in granite lagares. Niepoort’s philosophy relies on gentle extraction and the pure magic of the vineyard to create a timeless Vintage Port.
Food Pairings
A masterly soloist for contemplative moments, which also pairs magnificently with intense blue cheese such as Stilton or Roquefort. It is equally virtuosic alongside fine dark chocolate, refined desserts featuring red grapes and nuts, or a classic chocolate mousse.
