Grillo
Grillo is inextricably linked to Marsala – for centuries it was its most important grape variety. That it convinces today as a dry white wine is thanks above all to the western Sicilian terroir around Trapani and Marsala, where the salt-laden winds from the sea lend the wines an unmistakable mineral tension.
The finest Grillo wines combine Mediterranean fullness with surprising freshness: ripe citrus aromas, almonds, sometimes a hint of wild herbs. Marco de Bartoli has helped the grape variety to new esteem – his dry Grillo are reference wines for the potential of this rediscovered variety. Occhipinti and Vino Lauria also demonstrate what Grillo has to offer outside the Marsala context.
