Wine description for Marsala Superiore Oro Riserva 1988 1988 500ml by Marco de Bartoli

Colour & Appearance
Luminous amber with a delicate red shimmer.
Nose
Breathtakingly profound and complex. Smoky nuances of smoked bacon and Black Forest ham meet mature notes reminiscent of rubber rubbings. An abundance of dried fruit – plums, apricots, peaches, dates, raisins and figs – combines with roasted almonds, pecans, salted caramel and popcorn. Delicate hints of fresh mirabelle plums, cinnamon, white pepper and sourdough bread crust impart immense complexity.
Palate
On the palate, this sweetly balanced Riserva presents itself as exceptionally well-balanced, straight and with a sovereign calmness. At 19.0% ABV, the wine possesses a surprisingly piquant acidity structure that counters the sweet finesse with an elegant, almost salty freshness. A masterful interplay defined by deep umami.
Finish
In the long, multifaceted finish, the expressive roasted and dried fruit aromas from the nose are reflected once again in complete harmony.
Terroir & Origin
Grown on the chalky soils around Samperi near Marsala in western Sicily, which bestow upon the indigenous grape variety its remarkable freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Varietally crafted entirely from the autochthonous Grillo grape. The estate manages 30 hectares under organic viticulture, harvests exclusively by hand and uses indigenous yeasts for an artisanally uncompromising wine style.
Food Pairings
Excellent with pink-roasted duck breast with romanesco and orange sauce, Moroccan chicken with oven-roasted curry cauliflower or pan-fried prawns with sweet potatoes and lime salsa.
Key Features
A historic witness to its time from the year 1988. Marco de Bartoli revolutionised the region by demonstrating just how much elegance and natural acidity structure pure Grillo wines can possess without industrial additives.
