Wine information
The wine comes from old vines in Climat Sous Frétille in Pernand-Vergelesses, in the immediate vicinity of Corton. The vineyard is almost at the crest of the hill and faces largely south-east. The sun does not appear there until midday and the vineyard is cooler than Corton, which has increasingly worked to its advantage in recent years. The property here is 0.11 ha. After destemming and spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged slowly on the fine lees for 16 months in cigar-shaped barrels of 400 litres with a new wood content of 75 to 100 %.
Color
light golden yellow
Nose
On the first day the Sous Frétille Bright, clearly citrusy, but also lactic and almost buttery in the aroma. In addition, there are a few lightly roasted nuts and a somewhat smoky tone. On the second day, the wine has collected itself and appears clearly deeper in the fragrance with a whole fruit basket full of citrus fruits and stone fruits, further with crushed lime, a touch of smoke, classic wood and nuts.
Palate
The Pernand-Vergelesses currently needs a lot of air to gather itself. Shortly after opening, it seems rather buttery, soft and somewhat diffuse in its aroma, but with air it gathers itself, becomes powerful and complex with immense depth and a fantastically long finish. This will be a masculine, citrusy and yellow-fruited, firm-knit wine with great power, which is exceedingly classic and which will impress many a wine lover. Corton-Charlemagne should leave behind.
